Tonight we talk about “Pagans Tonight” along with other unruly topics that are both related and unrelated to the original topic at the same time!
Amber of Red Tail Arts, Ashlee, Branden of Pagan Men, Dave of Proud Pagan Podcasters, Joe of Pagan Roadtrip, Sam
Barrett of Pagan Men, Miles who wrote Teaching Witchcraft: A Guide for Teachers and Students of the Old Religion, Snooze of Portable Weirdness, Star Foster of Patheos.com
Temple of the River disbanding in 60 seconds or less
Let’s talk about pagans…tonight
The Pagan’s Tonight show has an incresing similarity to our topic list, like their obscure topics like otherkin.
After analyzing all the episodes, we’ve found 5 topics after going through over 500 episodes of theirs
We go over how our stuff is creative commons…but we also release it under the attributions liscence. So if you use our stuff…give us credit!
Proms to Lamyka’s Wiccan Podcast!
Topic One: What superstitions do you have?
There’s a difference between omens and superstitions…so let’s find a definition!
Maybe the definition comes from whether something is interacting with you vs. looking for outside influences to tell you how to act or what to do.
It’s just meant to be.
Superstition boils down to spiritual OCD
Topic Two: Books of Shadow
Topic Three: Mexican Magik…but we don’t have any Mexicans….
There’s a lot of Aztec heritage down in Mexico, so it makes sense for it not to be a forign idea to them
Why do we think the “most advanced” group are the ones that are the hardest to convince that magic things are real.
Dave brings up T.Thorn Coyle’s podcast that touches on the Hindu’s and how they find it a powerful image to see sucessful americans that embrace the Hindu pracitces
We fit into a 12 step program???
Topic Four: Why wear pagan jewelry?
Let’s expand it: Any kind of religious jewelry like Mojo bags or talismans
Topic Five: Secrets…
Slight tangent, there is material out there that can permenantly scar you if you know before you’re ready. It’s information that once you know…you can’t unknow
Amanda Eve talks about how she wants to be a teacher, and asks about a pagan based school that’s K-12
If Amanda makes a school…we have the problem of populating it
Pagans Tonight was summerized in about 20 minutes. Onto Scurvy’s rant pile!
Somehow we turn from rant to Scurvy’s RV discussion. What’s this about it being run on motor oil????
Scurvy’s first topic on his rant list: Be Honest, Be Clear, and Be In a Position to offer feedback
Scurvy’s Rant Topic Two: Gossip in the News, and how to handle people gossiping
Most people have a problem listening
Scurvy gives an example of bad gossip
Amber goes over how there’s a fine line between giving info to protect someone else and just being over sensitive and muddying someone’s name because you’re being an ass
Dave asks Barrett about the Asatru regulations on not just spewing other people’s information
Scurvy goes over how everyone has bad days and why that’s relevant
Even if you’re having a bad day, you’re still responsible for your actions
Amanda talks about how other people hate when other people succeed when they’re not able to. Ashlee has lived through that mistake and gives and example.
Scurvy brings up another example
Scurvy brings up another example
Amber brings up that once people look up to another person, all the flaws that BNP has are exaggerated because they’re supposed to be our leaders
Scurvy reviews excellence between rulers and common people back in the feudal system
Amanda brings up that just because you’re not a wisened sage…does not mean that you don’t have knowledge on a certain subject
Sometimes it has more to do with understanding as an adult rather than who’s a BNP or who has the right to criticize
Dave says that in Wicca…it doesn’t matter how high you are…you are always subject to questioning
There seems to be this weird idea that when you hit this mysterious age…you stop learning and you become a wise sage. Which is just silliness
The phrase is respect your elders…not respect old people
Why do we have to know everything? The best conversations are when we learn from other people.
There’s not a whole lot of money in the pagan community, so most of us have day jobs. But there’s a whole lot to talk about here…so we’re gonna call it a night and save that for another episode!
